"In today’s world, the trend of a multipolar world and economic globalization is surging forward, but a certain major power is obsessed with the idea of ‘might makes right’ and puts itself above everyone else. It is trying to replace international rules with the law of the jungle and replace the multilateral system with unilateralism and hegemonism. It is also using tariffs as a weapon to bully other countries. Such actions have violated the legitimate rights and interests of the entire world, including China and the LAC (Latin American and Caribbean) countries, undermined the multilateral trading system based on rules and disrupted the stability of global political and economic order."

STORYLINE:
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi made veiled comments against recent U.S. trade war actions on Tuesday at a forum held with Latin American and Caribbean nations.
Speaking to officials in Beijing from various Latin American and Caribbean countries at the ministerial meeting of the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Forum, Wang said that a "certain major power" was implementing the "law of the jungle" and using tariffs to bully others.
Trade frictions and the risk of conflict loomed over the event, where China sought to position itself as a reliable trade and development partner during the instability created by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff wars.
Beijing and Washington reached a breakthrough after a weekend of trade negotiations in Switzerland that led to the two sides rolling back sky-high tariffs for three months as the talks continue.
Wang also said that Latin America was not the "backyard of a certain country" and affirmed China’s support for Latin American countries’ independence, in the face of "power politics and foreign interference."
Speaking about Taiwan, Wang urged Latin American and Caribbean countries to "stay committed to the One China principle and support China’s justified position."
China claims Taiwan as its territory, to be retaken by force if necessary.
Several CELAC member states maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan, including Haiti and Paraguay.
