STORYLINE:
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva delivered statements to the press on Tuesday evening in Beijing, as both leaders affirmed their countries’ close relationship.
Speaking to the press at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi said that the Global South is the "backbone of resisting the negative trend of unilateralism and protectionism."
President Lula, who is on a state visit to China, also described the repealing of unilateralism and protectionism as "an urgent and necessary task."
"It is no exaggeration to say that, despite the more than fifteen thousand kilometers that separate us, we have never been so close." Lula said.
