1. Various of red carpet roll out
2. SOUNDBITE (French) Renee, 69:
"I don’t know. As an actor, Gérard Depardieu, is exceptional. It’s true that he’s a movie giant. Now, it is true that before, there was a lot of touching, there are a lot of things that actors were allowed to do that now can’t do anymore."
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Alais, 25:
"I think it’s a small step but still a step and I hope it’s going to continue like that because it’s an icon. And it’s a symbol of masculinity, ancient generation so maybe it’s gonna make people think more about consentments and the place of women and what we can say to girls."
4. SOUNDBITE (French) Renee, 69:
"First of all, in my opinion, MeToo comes from the United States because it is true that in the United States they put everyone on trial and they are making themselves known and they are collecting a lot of money. It’s true that here it has taken on a big scale, it’s true, which is quite normal because we should still bring back to light all these poor people who were raped, all these little people like children, like young girls. That is true. But I think it’s just getting started here compared to America."
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Alais, 25:
"Before he was a man and it’s still a man. How many movies, he, I don’t think it’s a problem of visibility or, popularity I think it’s just a problem of society. So, yes, just harassment and action is what. he what he do. So, yeah actor or not I don’t care, personally."
6. SOUNDBITE (French) Pierre, 70:
"This disappoints me very much, you know, because if he is French, there was an international representation. And well, now, especially in the United States, I think he had problems too, in the States. Well, it tarnished his image. What can I tell you, I’m sorry that this happened."
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Gilles, 23:
"I will not see his new movies no. I can’t."

STORYLINE:
Filmgoers in Cannes during the film festival gave their opinions on French actor Gérard Depardieu being found guilty of sexually assaulting two women on a film set in 2021.
He was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence on Tuesday.
The 76-year-old actor was convicted Tuesday of having groped a 54-year-old set dresser and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” or “The Green Shutters.”
The case was widely seen as a key post-MeToo test of how French society and its film industry address allegations of sexual misconduct involving prominent figures.
Depardieu has denied the accusations.
Depardieu’s lawyer said that his client would appeal the decision.
