How ‘dream maps’ might help local women protect lands from climate change

“By mapping the common areas, we were able to gain insight into the conditions of various resources gathered from the forest – roots, tubers, fruits, and medicine for children, different trees, birds, animals in forest. We villagers also documented the current state of forests, water bodies, village sites, grazing lands, and other shared areas.”

“If women choose not to assume leadership roles, our children may encounter obstacles. In the event of a decrease in resources such as fruits, roots, and green leaves, our future generations could experience difficulties. When women are harvesting forest produce, they follow sustainable practices.”

The purpose is to collect forest resources such as roots, tubers, fish, crabs, and more, within its limits. We firmly assert that no outsiders are allowed to enter and damage these valuable resources. With the intention of preserving, controlling, and enhancing the resources that sustain our livelihood, we are seeking community rights.”
