"I would have been out here a little earlier but they had me take my fingerprints and picture again. They took me and basically took my mugshot and my fingerprints again in the court, so I did it twice. So, you know, they tried their best to humiliate and demean and degrade, you know, me as much as they possibly can."

"We believe that I was targeted in this. I was the only person arrested. You know, I was the only person identified. I was the only person, you know, they put in a cell. The only person that was in cuffs and the only person that’s here this morning, going through this humiliation for these people."

STORYLINE:
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said federal prosecutors him tried to “humiliate and degrade” him by making him give his fingerprints and take a mug shot for a second time after a court appearance on a trespassing charge stemming from his arrest at an immigration detention center.
Both Baraka and interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba appeared in court Thursday for a roughly 15-minute procedural hearing before Magistrate Judge Andre Espinosa.
The hearing covered mostly scheduling for discovery in the case.
The arrest happened Friday outside the Delaney Hall immigration detention center.
A message was sent to the U.S. attorney’s office seeking a response to Baraka’s comment.
