STORYLINE:
Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa received his official credentials on Thursday, confirming his election to a four-year term.
Noboa took office in November 2023 to complete the term that ends next May 24 of former President Guillermo Lasso, who two years ago dissolved the Assembly and shortened his own term.
On May 10, a little over a month after the presidential ballot in Ecuador, the countr’s electoral authority proclaimed the official results that gave Noboa the victory.
In a ceremony at the National Electoral Council, Noboa pledged to boost economic growth, attract investment, create jobs, and confront the criminal violence that has plagued the country in recent years.
"We have overcome obstacles that seemed difficult to overcome and we have done so because we are confident in our political project and in the way to achieve that model of country with which we dream," he said.
He vowed to build on past experience, deepen reforms, and leave a legacy of development.
Noboa, who will take office in nine days, will have a certain amount of calmness in the political scenario. He will count on an Assembly with a pro-government majority.
