4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ghalia Abu Moteir, displaced resident:
"Today we’re in a bigger Nakba (Arabic for catastrophe) than the Nakba we saw before. We are not living. There is no life, no children. Everyone is being martyred. There are no houses left, no life, no children, no people, no food or drink. How long must we remain like this? Where can we go? They threw us out of our country, out of our homes. Where can we go? Here in Muwasi, there’s no food or water and the planes strike us. And our children are thrown (dead) in front of us.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ghalia Abu Moteir, displaced resident:
"No country has gone through this Nakba that we are in. Any war around the world comes for a month, 20 days, 10 days, then ends. For us here, it has been two years and our houses and families are being destroyed. A woman with her husband and her children were squashed. There’s no place for us… They destroyed the whole world."

8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ghalia Abu Moteir, displaced resident:
"I have lived through all those recent wars, but no war is like the one we are living through. We have never heard of such a war, people are starving, people are unable to find a bite of food to eat. They either cook lentils or a little rice, or grind lentils, something like that. Whatever is available to them, people do not have bread or flour at all."

10. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ghalia Abu Moteir, displaced resident:
"I’m 81, I’m not afraid for myself. I’m afraid for my children and my 45 grandchildren. Our whole life is terror on terror. Day and night, there are missiles and warplanes above us. We’re not living. If we were dead, it would be more merciful. How long will they keep doing this to us?"

12. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ghalia Abu Moteir, displaced resident:
"I wish we could live our lives like we used to, we were comfortable. There was no war or anything. It was safe. But now, there is no home nor anything, they wiped out everything. There is nothing, where does one go back to? Even if they said, ‘you can go back to Rafah,’ where do we go back to? To the stones? Or to the rubble? There is no place at all."

14. Various of hundreds of tents that displaced people use as shelter
STORYLINE:
As a 4-year-old, Ghalia Abu Moteir was driven to live in a tent in Khan Younis after her family fled their home in what’s now Israel, escaping advancing Israeli forces.

Now 77 years later, she is now back in a tent under the bombardment of Israel’s campaign in Gaza.

Abu Moteir’s life traces the arc of Palestinians’ exile and displacement from that war to the current one.
