Hundreds of people have been rescued but thousands remain stranded after widespread flooding in Australia’s New South Wales state on Wednesday. Police helicopters winched stranded residents from rooftops and emergency service personnel used boats to rescue others, including pets, from the flooded areas in and around the state’s mid north coast town of Taree.
