STORYLINE:
Pakistan on Friday observed Youm-e-Tashakur, or Day of Gratitude, to mark what it regards as a victory over India in the recent standoff.
Celebrations across the nation were used to honour the victims and pay tribute to the armed forces for their actions.
India recently struck targets inside Pakistan it claimed were affiliated with militants responsible for the massacre of 26 tourists last month in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Pakistan denies any links to the attackers.
After India’s strikes in Pakistan, the two sides exchanged heavy fire along their de facto borders, followed by missile and drone strikes into each other’s territories, mainly targeting military installations and airbases.
In the port city of Karachi in Sindh province, the Day of Gratitude was marked with great zeal and national spirit.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinah to pay homage the father of the nation.
He thanked Pakistan’s neighbours and the U.S. for supporting his nation during the escalation of tension.
He also stressed that any future talks with India on Kashmir and sharing water would have to be held on equal footing.
Both countries claim the Himalayan region of Kashmir in its entirety but administer it in parts.
The recent escalating hostilities between the nuclear-armed rivals threatened regional peace, leading to calls by world leaders to cool down tempers and the U.S. mediating a ceasefire.
