STORYLINE:
American filmmaker Richard Linklater brought his appropriately French-language “Nouvelle Vague,” about Jean-Luc Godard and the French New Wave, to the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, where it is screening in competition for the Palme d’Or.
The cast of the comedy features Guillaume Marbeck as Godard; Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg; Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alix Bénézech as Juliette Gréco.
Written by Holly Gent, Laetitia Masson, Vincent Palmo Jr and Michèle Pétin, “Nouvelle Vague" ("New Wave") emulates Godard’s style, to tell the story of the making of his iconic 1960 crime drama "Breathless," starring Belmondo and Seberg.
The multiple Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind "Boyhood" and the "Before.." trilogy, Linklater last made the Cannes lineup in 2006, when his "Fast Food Nation" was in competition for the Palme, and his "A Scanner Darkly" was selected for Un Certain Regard.
The festival runs May 13-24.
