STORYLINE:
Israeli strikes in central Gaza on Saturday killed at least 14 Palestinians, including a family of six people, medics said.
The dead included seven children and three women, according to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in the town of Deir al-Balah, where the casualties were taken.
One strike hit a house in Deir al-Balah, killing a woman and three children, it said.
Another strike also in the town killed a woman and three men, the hospital said.
A third strike hit a group of people close to a warehouse for humanitarian aid in Deir al-Balah, and killed eight people.
Among them were two parents, their four children and two of their relatives, according to the hospital.
Israel said Saturday that it has launched a major operation in the Gaza Strip to pressure Hamas to release remaining hostages, following days of strikes across the Palestinian territory that have killed hundreds of people.
Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Operation Gideon Chariots was being led with βgreat force.β
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed to escalate pressure with the aim of destroying the militant group that has ruled Gaza for nearly two decades.
