Is the Amazon transitioning from tropical forest to dry savanna? | DW News

The loss of tropical rainforest has hit record highs, according to a new study. In their latest annual analysis, Global Forest Watch says 18 soccer fields of forest were destroyed every minute last year. The study says fires, fuelled by climate change, are mainly responsible for the high level of destruction, which was five times higher than in 20-23. Forest fires are increasingly putting lives at risk, straining water supplies and worsening air quality. So communities all over the world are looking for ways to contain them.
