STORYLINE:
Israel continued its attack on Gaza on Saturday as regional leaders were due to meet in Baghdad at the annual summit of the Arab League, with the war in Gaza expected to once again loom large.
Smoke could be seen on the skyline in northern Gaza this morning.
Arab leaders endorsed in March at an emergency summit in Cairo a proposed plan for reconstruction of the Gaza Strip without displacing its roughly two million residents.
Saturday’s summit comes two months after Israel ended a ceasefire reached with the militant Hamas group in January.
Israel has launched widespread attacks in Gaza in recent days and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a further escalation of force to pursue his aim of destroying Hamas.
