The EU is facing pressure to act after Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party introduced a bill on May 13 that critics warn could stifle civil society and restrict press freedom. Tabled last week, the bill has yet to be enacted, prompting Brussels to withhold formal condemnation — for now.
