"I collect wood and sell it to get the fee for the (animal-drawn) cart that we will travel in. I am thrown here between the Twam area and area 17 in a tent. I don’t have money for transportation. We collect some wood along with some plastic, and sell it to leave (with the money of the sales.) When the Jews (referring to Israel) want a truce, Hamas refuses it. And when Hamas wants a truce, the Jews refuse it. Both sides are in agreement on exterminating the Palestinian people. For God’s sake, have mercy on us. We are tired of displacement. STORYLINE:
Families were fleeing Jabaliya, in northern Gaza, on Sunday after Israel launched “extensive” new ground operations in the territory.

Travelling on foot, in donkey carts, or in the few cars still running, residents carried whatever belongings they could.

“I don’t have money for transportation. We collect a little wood and plastic and sell it to use money for evacuation,” one resident, Abu Mohammad Yassin, a said.

“When the Jews want a truce, Hamas refuses, and when Hamas wants a truce, the Jews refuse it. Both sides agree to exterminate the Palestinian people. For God’s sake, have mercy on us.”

Israel launched the offensive on Saturday with the aims of seizing territory, displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to Gaza’s south and taking greater control of aid distribution.

Airstrikes in the new offensive have killed at least 103 people, including dozens of children, overnight and into Sunday, hospitals and medics said, and forced northern Gaza’s main hospital to close.

Israel’s military had no immediate comment, but its statement announcing the ground operations said that preliminary strikes over the past week killed dozens of militants and struck more than 670 targets.

Israel blames civilian casualties on Hamas because the militant group operates from civilian areas.

Meanwhile, an Israeli blockade on food, medicine and other supplies is now in its third month, with global food security experts warning of famine across the territory of more than 2 million people.

Israel has said it is pressuring Hamas to agree to a temporary ceasefire on Israel’s terms – one that would free Israeli hostages held in Gaza, but wouldn’t necessarily end the war.

Hamas says it wants a full withdrawal of Israeli forces and a pathway to ending the war as part of any new ceasefire deal.
