“We have to stop being naïve as Europeans and we have to be sure we preserve for our key players on this continent a level playing field with the others. And this level playing does exist when you speak about the U.S., it does exist even much more when you speak about China. The only place where there is no level playing fields for European players is Europe. We have to invest much more on AI, green tech, defence and security, especially, because this is a race. And on these fields, there is clearly a shortage of both public and private investment."

STORYLINE:
French President Emmanuel Macron announced billions in new investments had been agreed at the end of the eighth year of the ‘Choose France’ summit in Versailles.
The summit, created in 2018 is an annual economic event, aimed at attracting foreign investment, promoting the French business environment, and stimulating economic growth.
Around 200 international CEOs and senior business executives attended the gathering at the Palace of Versailles.
“I don’t want here to be too long and quote all the different sectors, but this is a very complete edition where 20 billion new investments were announced and 20 billion of AI investments as a follow-up of the (AI Paris) summit in February,” he said in an address following the conclusion of the summit.
Macron stressed the need for Europe to invest more heavily in AI as well as in green tech and defence and security.
“(In) these fields, there is clearly a shortage of both public and private investment," he said.
