"The rounds of negotiations that took place in Doha in the past couple of weeks unfortunately didn’t lead us anywhere yet because there is a fundamental gap between the two parties, which is: one party is looking for a partial deal that might or have the possibility to lead to a comprehensive deal and the other party is looking just for one-off deal, and to end the war and to get all the hostages out. And we couldn’t bridge this fundamental gap with whatever proposals we have provided."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister:
"The delicacy of that situation in the region right now is critical and basically, we have seen that the continuation of this campaign and this way, and this behaviour – and it’s not only in Gaza but Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria – is something becoming unbearable. Yet, you have seen that all of us as governments, as countries, we are calling for peace. We are calling for peaceful resolutions."

STORYLINE:
Qatar’s prime minister said on Tuesday that recent negotiations over the Israel-Hamas war "unfortunately didn’t lead us anywhere yet because there is a fundamental gap between the two parties."
Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also serves as Qatar’s foreign minister, made the remarks during the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha.
Qatar has been a key mediator in Israel-Hamas talks.
Over recent days, strikes have pounded areas across Gaza and Israel has issued evacuation orders for Gaza’s second-largest city, Khan Younis, which endured a previous offensive that left vast destruction.
Israel launched another major offensive in the territory in recent days, saying it aims to return dozens of hostages held by Hamas and destroy the militant group.
More than 300 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of the latest onslaught, according to local health officials.
"One party is looking for a partial deal that might or have the possibility to lead to a comprehensive deal and the other party is looking just for one-off deal, and to end the war and to get all the hostages out," the Qatari prime minister said.
Israel says it seeks to seize Gaza and hold on to territory there, displace hundreds of thousands of people and secure aid distribution.
The war in Gaza began when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting 251 others.
The militants are still holding 58 captives, around a third believed to be alive, after most of the rest were returned in ceasefire agreements or other deals.
Israel’s retaliatory offensive, which has destroyed large swaths of Gaza, has killed more than 53,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which doesn’t differentiate between civilians and combatants in its count.
