"Our President positively assessed the negotiation process between Washington and Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program, launched with the mediation of Oman. Moscow stresses the need to find mutually acceptable solutions by political and diplomatic methods. We are ready to provide support."
STORYLINE:
Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov, who previously served as Russian ambassador to the U.S., stressed the friendly nature of the conversation between the two world leaders.
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed each on a first name basis, and Putin congratulated Trump on the recent birth of his eleventh grandchild, he said.
Ushakov also said that both men agreed to a potential face-to-face meeting in the future but gave no time frame, only saying that such an event could take place after the “necessary prerequisites” were met.
“Both presidents agree that such a meeting must be prepared for comprehensively,” he said.
Ushakov also said that aside from Ukraine, the two men discussed Trump’s recent tour of the Middle East, particular Washington’s negotiations with Tehran, mediated by Oman.
