Israel is commemorating Jerusalem Day, a national holiday which marks its capture of East Jerusalem since the Six-Day war, effectively bringing the entire city under its control. Israel occupied the eastern part of the city during the 1967 Six-Day war, which is also home to the Old City. Security forces have been on high alert as religious and far-right Israeli groups rally for a controversial flag march through East Jerusalem’s Palestinian neighbourhoods. Marchers and a Knesset member were seen entering a UN compound and shouting "death to Arabs."
