"Well, I can honestly say that when I just saw this new set-up for Jim Morrison, I was quite surprised because I was here 40 years ago and it was very different. There was, the bust was obviously there, there was a lot of graffiti, the tomb was obviously, the bust was much smaller than all of these grand tombs. It was very modest, so I was quite surprised by that. But the other thing was the atmosphere, it was buzzing. There were people partying, smoking, music, dancing."

"You know, there was tags all over it, you know, graffiti and things like that. And so, somebody must have taken it as a souvenir."

"I think it would be incredible if they put the bust back onto where it was and it would attract so many more people, but the cemetery wouldn’t even be able to hold that many people. I’m saying this as seriously as I can. The amount of people who would rush in here just to see the bust to take pictures of it, it would be incredible."

"Someone will probably try to take it again because these things are priceless, aren’t they? But yeah, maybe they could put it back and and just have like 24 people volunteering to guard it."

STORYLINE:
French police announced they had retrieved the bust of The Doors singer Jim Morrison, 37 years after it was stolen from the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.
The Paris Prefecture Anti-fraud Unit posted a photo of the graffiti covered sculpture, saying it had found it amid an unrelated investigation.
Some of the many visitors who trekked up the cemetery’s cobbled walkways to see Morrison’s grave on Monday welcomed the news, reminiscing the days when people gathered at the Paris cemetery to dance and play music in the wake of the singer’s death in 1971.
Sam Burcher, an artist from London, remembered bringing strawberries to the musicians and poets celebrating their idol’s life.
"It was buzzing," she told the Associated Press.
"There were people partying, smoking, music, dancing, and then I brought strawberries and kind of gave them out to everyone. Obviously I was like 20 or, you know, young, and it was just such an amazing experience."
Most insisted the bust should find its way back atop the gravestone, despite the risks.
"The amount of people who would rush in here just to see the bust to take pictures of it, it would be incredible," predicted Paris tour guide Jade Jezzini.
