"I basically lived most of my life in the 20th century, and our (dream) was that we would never repeat the war. I told them that if you can’t negotiate, don’t go into politics, don’t shoot at people and so on."

STORYLINE:
Russian WWII veteran Lyudmila Vasilyeva was fined 10,000 rubles (about $126) on Friday in a St. Petersburg court for an anti-war picket.
In February, 83-year-old Vasilyeva held a solo protest to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, standing in the center of St. Petersburg with a banner saying, “people, let’s stop the war! We are responsible for peace on planet Earth.”
Vasilyeva survived the Leningrad Siege, she ran for St. Petersburg governor election last year.
