1. 00:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Enzo Maresca, Chelsea head coach:
"But no-one care about players healthy (welfare)."
(Q: How do you manage that?)
"Nothing. If they’re going to be tired, they’re not going to play. You can manage that. It’s simply like that. But I don’t think there is many attention about players being healthy or these kinds of things. Otherwise, it’s not normal. The amount of game that they played."
6. 00:24 SOUNDBITE (English): Enzo Maresca, Chelsea head coach:
"But that’s why I said that for me it’s not normal and it’s not correct and I can understand that people is thinking yeah but they earn much money, lots of money, but it’s not about money, it’s (about) healthy, it’s to protect the players and my feeling is because of the amount of game that they played, I don’t think they (FIFA) pay attention to that."

STORYLINE:
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said on Friday that he might be forced to rest senior players at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup because of the amount of games that are demanded of them.

"No-one cares about player welfare," he said. "We will have to make some changes."

Maresca was speaking before Chelsea’s final Premier League game of the season at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, a game they must win in order to make sure of Champions League football next season – Forest are also in the running for a top five finish.

On Wednesday Chelsea will be in Wroclaw, Poland for the UEFA Conference League Final against Real Betis.

Five members of Maresca’s squad have been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England side for games against Andorra on 7th June and Senegal on 10th June, and just six days later Chelsea are scheduled to play their first match at the CWC in Atlanta, USA.

"The problem is that we have a game Sunday and Wednesday, a European final," Maresca, said. "No-one cares about that. No one cares about player welfare."

"If they’re going to be tired (in the US), they’re not going to play. How can you manage that? It’s simply like that."

"I don’t think there’s any attention paid to (if) players are healthy or these kind of things. It’s not normal the amount of games they play."

"For me it’s not normal and it’s not correct," he said. "I can understand that people are thinking ‘they earn (a lot of) money,’ but it’s not about money, it’s about health, it’s about protecting players."

"My feeling is because of the amount of games they play, I don’t think they (FIFA) pay attention."
