5. SOUNDBITE (English) Nancy Amato, Co-Chair, International Conference on Robotics:
"So, I would say robotics is part of AI, really. If you look back at the early days of AI, they were all about using robots to do amazing things. The things that we are seeing today that are on the market for AI are mostly things that do not involve physical presence. They don’t have to act in the real world. They don’t have to touch things. So that’s what robotics does, is it really brings this virtual world together with our physical world, and that’s a lot harder."

STORYLINE:
The world’s leading conference on robotics and automation took to the showroom floor in Atlanta, offerrng a showcase of robots that walk, crawl, run, fly, do push-ups and play soccer.
Many of the robots at the 2025 International Conference on Robotics and Automation featured human-like features, blinking and winking at passersby and conversing in various language, all thanks to advances in computing power and AI, according to conference co-chair Nancy Amato.
"So for example, all of the advances in AI are really due to advances in computing because we now can process all of this data fast enough. We couldn’t do that before. And the exact same algorithms that we were developing when I was in graduate school and they kind of petered out, now those same simple things are giving us these amazing results," Amato told The AP.
The robots held a parade past hundreds of conference attendees on Thursday, deftly rolling and strolling and waving as they made their way to an arena where they spun, jumped and demonstrated their abilities. For all the moving metal, rubber and plastic parts, there were no collisions or mishaps, thanks to sensors that guided their every move.
