Gaza’s Health Ministry says Israeli military gunfire has killed one Palestinian and injured 48 others at a new aid distribution point. The Hamas-run ministry says the soldiers fired on thousands of people scrambling to receive aid packages. Israeli authorities say troops fired warning shots after losing control of the situation. The new aid site is run by Israel together with a private US corporation called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The UN has accused the group of not upholding humanitarian principles and argues the new Israeli system weaponizes aid while effectively reaching only a small segment of the population of the Gaza Strip.
