"At this particular moment, I thought about many things, I thought of my friends I spent time in prison with, all the young girls who went into the streets during the movement Woman Life Freedom. In doing this film, I thought how I could participate in a small way in everything they’ve done."

"We are very happy. It is a beautiful prize. The script is very important, but the actress too. Without our actress, a good actress, we don’t have a movie. And this actress, a young actress, carried a lot, a lot of new words, new dialogue, new movement for our movie."

"I was telling myself, whatever prize I win it is just amazing and I’ll be thankful to life. You know. So I was I was happy, I was really happy, you know? I mean, being there in this theater, I mean, Cannes is really the temple of cinema. It’s really the place where few filmmakers we can still resist, you know? I mean, like showing us cinema with soul cinema, a cinema that sometimes is fragile, but a cinema that is this strong while being fragile. And so I’m proud of belonging to this family."

And I ran back, ran back to the stage to pick this up, and this is very… I’m moved because this is a very important prize."

STORYLINE:
Iranian dissident filmmaker Jafar Panahi won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday for his revenge thriller “It Was Just an Accident,″ handing the festival’s top prize to a director who had been banned from leaving Iran for more than 15 years.
