"It is very difficult to survive in the theatre industry because the theatre industry in Pakistan is not so big, compared to the media industry. If you are fond of becoming a theatre artist and passionate (about it), then you could do it. I ask the future artists to do theatre because it is the best form of art and is beneficial for society."

11. SOUNDBITE (Urdu) Komal Hayat Veerji, artist:
"The young generation should stop being scared. Artists, whether they are scriptwriters, theater artists or music composers, should write, speak and make the music that they think should be heard. If people are not accepting it, then okay. When theater started out, no one know about the theater. But now artists have their own platform through social media to catch their audience by promoting their work. In my opinion, the youth should not be afraid. And they should continue their work, their expression, and should not stop it.”

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Salman Peerzada, author:
"I see a lot of young people, let’s say rom the age of 18 to 26, or 27. Similarly at NAPA (National Academy of Performing Arts), a lot of young people who have enrolled themselves in these subjects like drama, theatre, music etc. and I see a lot of youthful contribution to it. I do not know if it will translate into something substantial in the future. But yes, the youth is contributing, and it has to contribute.”

STORYLINE:
A three-day arts festival was held in Karachi over the weekend to promote young talent in the performing arts.
Pakistani artists are hoping to bring about change in their society through arts.
But working in theater can come with challenges for young artists.
"It is very difficult to survive in the theatre industry because the theatre industry in Pakistan is not so big, compared to the media industry," said artist Sara Taqi.
Some artists have to strive to gain acceptance because some people worry that their art clashes with traditional society values.
Singer Aiman Hanif says his own family was not very accepting of his career in music for some time.
"The young generation should stop being scared” said artist Komal Hayat Veerji. "Artists, whether they are scriptwriters, theater artists or music composers, should write, speak and make the music that they think should be heard."
Pakistan has introduced performing arts academies in the major cities, giving the theater a boost.
The arts festival held in Karachi over the weekend, named “Arts Alumni Festival 2025” featured not just theater but lively folk music performances.
