STORYLINE:
South Korean soprano Sumi Jo was awarded the medal of France’s Commandeur of the Order of Arts and Letters in a Paris on Monday.
The Korean Cultural Center in Paris said it was in recognition of her contributions to French art.
Fleur Pellerin, a French businesswoman and former minister gave the award to Sumi Jo during a ceremony at the National Theatre of the Opera Comique.
Pellerin was born in South Korea in 1973 and adopted by a family in France when she was just 6 months old.
The French government distinction l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) is conferred on “persons who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to the influence of arts in France and throughout the world.”
