“The Marie Thérèse pink diamond belonged to Duchess Marie Thérèse of Angoulême who was the daughter of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France. This very special diamond weighs 10.38 carats. It is a fancy purple-pink diamond from the 18th century, and most likely from the Golconda mines in India. From Marie Thérèse of Angoulême it passed on to her niece, Duchess Marie Thérèse of Chambord, and from there to Duchess Marie Thérèse of Bavaria. In 1996, the descendants of Duchess Marie Thérèse of Bavaria sold the diamond at auction in Geneva, and this is the only other time it is coming up for sale at Christie’s in New York on June 17, with an estimate of 3 to 5 million US dollars.”

STORYLINE:
A ring so special it’s on a world tour.
Los Angeles, Geneva and now Hong Kong.
The stone is associated with European royalty, being passed down from the famous queen Marie Antoinette to several of her elite descendants.
Weighing 10.38 carat, this fancy purple-pink, kite-shaped diamond dates back to the mid 18th century.
While no official records have been found, by repute, this diamond is believed to have owned by Marie Thérèse of Angoulême, who was the daughter of Marie Antoinette.
In 1996, the diamond resurfaced at an auction in Geneva, offered for sale by a member of a European royal family. Since then, it has been hidden from the public eye until now.
The diamond is now set in a ring by Joel Arthur Rosenthal, the famous Parisian jeweler, called JAR for short.
It’s expected to fetch between $3 million and $5 million.
The ring will go under the hammer in New York on 17 June.
