STORYLINE:
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, stood alongside a poster-sized printout of Elon Musk’s post on X blasting President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill" during a news conference.
Jeffries began his news conference saying, "Breaking news: Elon Musk and I agree with each other," referring to the billionaire’s message calling President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill" of tax breaks and the spending cuts as a “disgusting abomination" on Tuesday, taking aim at Republican lawmakers in a break with Trump that will test the tech billionaire’s influence over the GOP.
"I haven’t spoke to Elon Musk. I’m not sure what the reasons are for this extraordinary statement, but we’re in complete agreement," Jeffries added.
Musk targeted Trump’s top congressional priority just days after the president gave him a celebratory Oval Office sendoff marking the end of Musk’s role leading the Department of Government Efficiency.
