++CONTINUES FROM PREVIOUS SHOT++
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Thom Tillis, (R) North Carolina:
Reporter: "Is the spending bill an abomination as Elon Musk says?"
Tillis: "What specific area, do you think, Elon characterized as an abomination? Let’s let’s peel back the layers of the onion. So what was?
Reporter: "Well he’s talking specifically about spending and the deficit widening and the debt."
Tillis: "Which specific — Well, the other reason I asked that is he also talked about the tax credits. So there’s I mean, there’s a variety of different ones."
Reporter: "Do you think he’s being self-serving?
Tillis: "I don’t necessarily think that. I just think that he’s painted things with a broad brush, and I don’t get the luxury of doing that. I have to deal with the details."
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. John Kennedy, (R) Louisiana:
"Sometimes CBO (Congressional Budget Office) is right, sometimes they’re wrong. I generally look at CBO, but I don’t just swallow it whole. The CBO is made up of economists and it’s been my experience up here in Washington that for every economist, there’s an equal and opposite economist. And sometimes they’re both wrong."
Reporter: "I mean would that give you pause?"
Kennedy: "So it’s, it’s a factor that I think the Senate will consider, but it won’t be dispositive."
Reporter: "I mean, do you think Elon Musk is right in terms of his concerns?"
Kennedy: "I’ve answered your question the best I can. Y’all got anything else?"
3. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick arrives for an Appropriations Committee hearing
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. John Kennedy, (R) Louisiana:
"I agree with a lot of what the White House has done (on tariffs.) I disagree with other parts. My purpose today, Secretary Lutnick, obviously has a great deal of influence over the president, and I wanted to try to understand where he is coming from. I’m very surprised he’s not familiar with the major questions. I mean, he just lost in court and it’s a central part of the decision and it’s going to really impact trade policy. And that’s why I asked him that."
Reporter: "Would you get, like, you got more clarity from him in that process, in you’re questioning clarity about what the goal of the administration is?
Kennedy: "Not especially. Okay."

STORYLINE:
President Donald Trump wants his “big, beautiful” bill of tax breaks and spending cuts on his desk to be signed into law by the Fourth of July, and he’s pushing the slow-rolling Senate to make it happen sooner rather than later.

According to an analysis released Wednesday by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the bill will cut taxes by $3.75 trillion but also increase deficits by $2.4 trillion over the next decade.

"Sometimes CBO is right, sometimes they’re wrong," said Senator John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana.

"it’s a factor that I think the Senate will consider, but it won’t be dispositive," Kennedy added.

At its core, the package seeks to extend the tax cuts approved in 2017, during Trump’s first term at the White House, and add new ones the president campaigned on, including no taxes on tips. It also includes a massive buildup of $350 billion for border security, deportations and national security.

Elon Musk has blasted Trump’s bill as a “disgusting abomination."
