Israel diverts activist aid boat bound for Gaza in international waters | DW News

Israel has intercepted a boat carrying pro-Palestinian activists, who say they were bringing aid to Gaza in defiance of an Israeli naval blockade on the territory.
The activists say they were illegally detained in international waters, after the Israeli navy said it ordered the vessel to change course because it was approaching a restricted area. The Madleen set sail from Italy on June 1. Gaza has been under an Israeli maritime blockade since 2009, which Israel says is to prevent the militant group Hamas from smuggling weapons. DW’s Tania Krämer reports from Jerusalem.
