Despite the governor’s objections, President Donald Trump is deploying 2,000 California National Guard troops to Los Angeles, where clashes occurred on Saturday between immigration authorities and demonstrators. In a statement on Saturday, the White House said that Trump was deploying the Guardsmen to "address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester" in California. California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, objected to the move, stating in an X post that the Republican president’s actions were "purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions". Trump has overridden Governor Newsom’s authority to deploy the California Guard.
