STORYLINE:
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte hosted Brazilian President Luiz Inácio ‘Lula’ da Silva and First Lady Rosângela Lula da Silva for a state dinner at the Elysee palace on Thursday.
The Brazilian leader is in France for a state visit from June 5 to 9 aimed at deepening bilateral ties in key areas such as defense, economy, biodiversity protection and energy transition.
The meeting between the two presidents comes ahead of the third United Nations Conference on the Oceans (UNOC3) that will take place in Nice, southern France, next week.
In a toast, Macron had fond words for his "Amazonian neighbor", calling France and Brazil’s relationship "unique".
