2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abdel Rahman Madi, Displaced man:
"This year I am unable to sacrifice because the sacrificial animals are very expensive. A kilo today is 220 or 230 shekels. In the past, before the war, I used to sacrifice and a kilo was 35 shekels. Today I am unable to sacrifice. I am unable to provide even bread, flour, or vegetables. Everything is expensive. Prices are astronomical."
3. Various of livestock
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abdel Rahman Madi, Displaced man:
"In the past, a calf weighing 600 kg was worth 12,000 shekels. Today, a small lamb weighing 30 to 50 kg is worth 15,000 shekels. In the past, a calf weighing 800 kg was worth 15,000 shekels. Today, this calf is worth 100,000 shekels. A calf weighing 400 kg is worth 100,000 shekels. Where do people get money from?"

7. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Jamal Owida, Displaced from Rafah:

Today there is no Eid atmosphere, today we wake up in the morning to martyrs and go to sleep to news of martyrs."

"There used to be an Eid atmosphere, there was joy for the children, we used to take them to buy them clothes, we used to live the atmosphere like everyone else, but now there is a siege, there is no flour, no clothes, no happiness, and the situation is as you can see, people are fleeing, before when people are approaching the Eid, they used to buy clothes for their children and buy meat, but of course today we do not have meat or clothes, just to find flour for our children, we go out every day looking for flour at a reasonable price, but we find it at exorbitant prices. This is unreasonable."

Now life has disappeared in the Gaza Strip because of the war, because of displacement, and because of the lack of income. Life is very difficult, as you can see."

STORYLINE:
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip under war and siege are struggling to maintain the traditions of one of the holiest Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world.

Eid al-Adha marks the Prophet Ibrahim’s test of faith and his willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of submission to God.

During the holiday, Muslims slaughter sheep or cattle and distribute some meat to poor people.

Families buy their children new clothes and local sweets and get together to mark the occasion.

But life in crowded displacement camps in the Palestinian enclave, with little access to food and water, and the struggle to survive under Israeli bombardments in the devastated territory means that these generational traditions have to be compromised.
