“I received (in donations) in my bank account 17 million reais (around $3,000,000 USD). And I sent him 2 million (reais). Abroad everything is more expensive. I have two grandchildren abroad, four and one year olds, and I don’t want them to go through any hardship. Is it a lot? It is a lot of money. In the United States it might not be that much, 350 thousand dollars. But I want the best for their wellbeing and, thank God, I had the means to send it.”

STORYLINE:
Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro testified on Thursday to Federal Police in an investigation involving his son, suspended congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro.

In May, Brazil’s Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, requested an investigation into Eduardo for alleged actions in the U.S. that authorities claim may have aimed to intimidate Brazilian authorities amid ongoing legal proceedings against his father.

Gonet said Eduardo’s efforts, including calls for international sanctions against Brazilian officials, could amount to obstruction of justice, interference with criminal investigations, and attacks on democratic institutions.

Living in the U.S. since March, Eduardo has publicly claimed political persecution in Brazil and has shared meetings seeking sanctions.
