“Well, yeah, it’s sometimes it hurts a bit, but it’s, you know, but it’s a great, we had such a wonderful time, you know, we’re four guys trying to make our way in the world. We collided together and Culture Club was born and it was an amazing thing, but there were some ups and downs of course, you know, I mean, for the most part it was a wonderful experience and a beautiful time in our lives.”

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Roy Hay, recording artist:
“It’s hard, there aren’t any bands, you’re right these days. It’s like 90% of new acts are either solo artists or hip hop. It’s very hard to be a band these days, you are right. So maybe not, I don’t know. But I think people want bands, don’t they? I mean, you know.”
Reporter: “It seems to ebb and flow. It’s bands who are very big in the era.”
“I think record companies and the solo artists and having 12 songwriters and everything and Max Martin doing every song. It’s just rubbish and it’s just ruining the business. I’m with Dave Grohl, man. Just get together with your mates in the garage and start playing music. That’s where the soul is.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Alison Ellwood, director:
“I think the music is timeless, the songs are amazing, and they’re about, the songs in essence are about the love that John and George had for one another. And I think with the backlash against the LGBTQ plus community right now, this is more important now than ever to tell this truly, a love story that was very strong and defied the odds.”

STORYLINE:
Roy Hay and Mikey Craig walked the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival Thursday for the premiere of a documentary on the band.

“Boy George and Culture Club” covers the ups and downs of one of the eighties’ most iconic bands.

“Well, yeah, it’s sometimes it hurts a bit, but it’s, you know, but it’s a great, we had such a wonderful time, you know, we’re four guys trying to make our way in the world. We collided together and Culture Club was born and it was an amazing thing, but there were some ups and downs of course, you know, I mean, for the most part it was a wonderful experience and a beautiful time in our lives," said Mikey Craig.

The Tribeca Film Festival began as a way to help lower Manhattan recover after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

The festival continues until June 15.
