1. SOUNDBITE (English) Chrissy Lynch, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO:
“Our brave men and women in uniform didn’t sign up for this. They’re not, they didn’t sign up to be used as pawns in a political agenda. Let’s be clear. The militarization of our communities and our neighborhoods to crush a peaceful protest will only serve to escalate, enflame the situation and endanger our families. When ICE agents attack and detain peaceful protesters, they are shredding the Constitutional rights and fundamental freedoms we all rely on."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Cari Medina, Vice President of 1199SEIU Massachusetts:
“Immigrants are part of the American story. They care for our elders, grow our food, work in our hospitals, and heal the sick. They are essential to our economy and our humanity. Tearing them away from their family hurts every one of us. Today we stand together and say, Free David Huerta! Stop the raids! Protect immigrants! And defend democracy!”

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of people gathered in Boston’s City Hall Plaza to protest the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles and the detainment of union leader David Huerta.

David Huerta is the president of SEIU California, a union of over 700,000 members working in healthcare, public services and property services.

The union leader now faces a federal charge following his arrest Friday during an immigration enforcement operation in Los Angeles.

The Boston protesters were heard shouting “Free David, free them all.”

People held signs reading “No human is illegal” and “Rise up! Abolish ICE.”

“The militarization of our communities and our neighborhoods to crush a peaceful protest will only serve to escalate and flame the situation and endanger our families. When ICE agents attack and detain peaceful protesters, they are shredding the constitutional rights and fundamental freedoms we all rely on,” said Chrissy Lynch, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO.

She called on President Trump to call off any plans to deploy the service members to quell protests.

Vice President Cari Medina of a Massachusetts SEIU chapter said, “Immigrants are part of the American story. They care for our elders, grow our food, work in our hospitals, and heal the sick. They are essential to our economy and our humanity,”.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced plans Monday to sue the Trump administration. He said that President Donald Trump “trampled” on the state’s sovereignty when he ordered National Guard troops to the immigration protests in Los Angeles.
