“My dad was on the Run For Your Lives march on Sunday, on the 1st, and what he said to me was pretty shocking. His testimony was basically, it was, you know, a man shouting, ‘Free Palestine,’ stuff like that. And then threw some fire bombs, threw Molotov cocktails at them, and my dad saw an 84-year-old woman on fire, so he grabbed her and did everything he could to, you know, put her off, to get her off fire.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Matan Gold-Edelstein, University of Colorado student:
“I grew up here and I’ve had religious friends. And yeah, it’s scary. I was just in New York, and it’s, I would think it would be less scary in Colorado where I’m used to, but it feels a lot scarier here because I feel much more isolated as a Jew.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Rachel Amaru, founder, Boulder Run For Their Lives:
“What was important for me was that we have our walk again, that we show our resilience. And none of us, even the people who were victims of that walk, of that terror attack, they all wanted to be here and walk again. So it was, it’s essential. It is essential that we show that we don’t back down from anti-Semitism. So we were gonna walk again no matter what.”

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of people gathered at the Boulder Jewish Festival in Colorado on Sunday, one week after a man firebombed a group calling for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
The Jewish cultural festival was reimagined this year to highlight the stories of Israeli hostages after police said a man who yelled “Free Palestine” threw Molotov cocktails last Sunday at Boulder demonstrators calling for their release.
Festival organizers said they wanted the annual event, which is in its 30th year, to focus on healing and center the group’s cause — raising awareness of the 55 people believed to still be in captivity in Gaza.
Authorities said 15 people and a dog were victims of the attack at the downtown Pearl Street pedestrian mall. They include eight women and seven men, ranging in age from 25 to 88. One is a Holocaust survivor.
