"Norma battles with a lot of things. She battles with where does the time go, you know, it’s time fleeting as we all do, especially me. You blink, a day goes by, two decades go by, you wake up and you’re 46 years old just when you’ve been 25 touring with the biggest one of the biggest pop groups. She battles with abandonment, loneliness, fear of not being seen, fear not being loved. So what I wanted to hopefully achieve was the human story that everyone could relate to and to let them know that they are not alone. And at the end, she is a dreamer and she is warrior."

STORYLINE:
The stars of Broadway walked the red carpet in New York Sunday for the 78th annual Tony Awards. Actors and creators from some of the biggest plays and musicals this season were nominated for American theater’s highest accolade.
Nicole Scherzinger, who leads Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Sunset Blvd" as Norma Desmond, spoke on how she personally relates to her character.
"You blink, a day goes by, two decades go by, you wake up and you’re 46 years old just when you’ve been 25 touring with the biggest one of the biggest pop groups," Scherzinger said. "She battles with abandonment, loneliness, fear of not being seen, fear not being loved. So what I wanted to hopefully achieve was the human story."
Natalie Venetia Belcon, who stars in Buena Vista Social Club, reflected on how today’s social climate informed the Broadway production, which premiered on Broadway earlier this year.
"Pain comes beauty right and from pain typically is when people write the best things and perform the best sadly maybe not so sadly but yeah it helps."
Featured performances included the casts of nominated new musicals and revivals including "Buena Vista Social Club," "Dead Outlaw," "Death Becomes Her," "Floyd Collins," "Gypsy," "Maybe Happy Ending," "Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical," "Pirates! The Penzance Musical," "Sunset Blvd.", "Just In Time," and "Real Women Have Curves."
One greatly anticipated performance was from the original Broadway cast of "Hamilton" to mark the historic show’s 10th anniversary year.
