President Vladimir Putin’s regime created the Russian Youth Army in 2016, with military, religious and other activities aimed at fostering a "love for the motherland" in the country’s young people.

There are now branches in schools across Russia, with pupils as young as eight joining.

BBC Eye Investigations brings a rare glimpse into the movement, as told by the children and adults of Vologda in northern Russia.
