What’s in a US Senate draft bill to impose stiff sanctions on Russia and its trading partners?

The US Senate is reviewing a draft bill proposed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham to impose tougher sanctions on Russia, as well as secondary sanctions on states who trade with Russia. The bill has a controversial provision, which would impose 500% tariffs on countries trading with Russia, such as China and India. Senator Graham has argued that his tough sanctions bill would be ‘bone crushing’ for the Russian economy.
DW’s Roman Goncharenko speaks to Edward Fishman, a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy. He served as Russia and Europe Sanctions Lead and as a member of the Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State during the Obama administration.
