STORYLINE:
Mourners grieved their lost loved ones in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, after Israeli airstrikes on tents sheltering the displaced killed 19 people.
The strikes occurred late Monday early Tuesday, according to the Nasser Hospital, which received the casualties.
The strikes were the latest in the Israel-Hamas war which started when the Palestinian militant group attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking another 251 hostage.
Israel’s military campaign has killed nearly 55,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
It says women and children make up most of the dead, but doesn’t say how many civilians or combatants were killed.
Israel says it has killed more than 20,000 militants, without providing evidence.
The war has destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90% of its population, often multiple times.
