STORYLINE:
A zoo in Germany welcomed its latest addition Thursday, an elephant calf named ‘Kaja.’
Born 16 days ago, Kaja is the first elephant cub to be born in the Opel Zoo in the western German city of Kronberg for 57 years.
Meanwhile at the Cologne zoo, elephants were seen enjoying the hot summer weather and spraying themselves with water in their outdoor enclosure. Among them is another young elephant calf, ‘Taro,’ who was born in March 2025.
The Cologne zoo also revealed their latest newborn animals.
In May, both a female and male of the rare species of Przewalski’s horses were born.
The herd now comprises a total of six animals, according to the zoo.
Zoo visitors and people in Cologne’s "Flora" garden nearby were seen enjoying the weather, as temperatures wereexpected to rise higher than 30 degrees celsius over the next few days in parts of the country.
