“We have the recent information of an accident in India, an Air India flight with 242 passengers with crew on board. We have the information that there were 7 citizens with Portuguese nationality on board. We are checking, apparently there are also some survivors that are being treated. From these 7 citizens, the information that we have – we are still also trying to verify this – they appear to be dual nationals. I wanted to express my condolences to all the relatives of the people deceased, specially to India as most of the nationals were from India and we are now trying to confirm the number of deaths and the survivors. This is the information we have.”
“The information that we have, we have the list of passengers supplied to us, the names are not of Portuguese origin, so we presume that they have dual nationality, this is what we are trying to confirm.”

STORYLINE:
An Air India passenger plane bound for London with more than 240 people on board crashed Thursday in India’s northwestern city of Ahmedabad.
The airline said the Gatwick Airport-bound flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew. Of those, Air India said there were 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese and one Canadian.
Speaking after an official ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal’s Secretary for Portuguese community said authorities were trying to confirm the details regarding the Portuguese nationals.
Speaking to reporters, Emidio Sousa said the government had received the list of passengers.
