STORYLINE:
The relatives of victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad waited on Friday to receive the bodies of their loved ones at a post mortem centre in the city.

As he waited outside a room where DNA tests were being carried out to identify the victims, the brother of one of the passengers said his mind was "in a really bad state".

"What can I say? What has happened, has happened. What can I do? My brother and sister-in law died in the plane crash," Dhirubhai Shambhubhai Tovatia, said.

Sureshbhai Babubhai Patni, who runs a tea shop next to the building hit by the plane, waited for his son’s body.

He said his son was hit by debris as the plane made impact.

The London-bound Boeing 787 struck a medical college hostel when it fell in a residential area of the northwestern city of Ahmedabad minutes after takeoff Thursday.

The crash is one of India’s worst aviation disasters. It killed 241 people on board and several people on the ground.

DNA testing was being conducted to identify bodies that were mostly charred beyond recognition.

More victims are expected to be found in the search at the crash site. There was no information on whether the black boxes — the flight data and cockpit voice recorders — had been recovered.

Indian authorities said Friday the investigation into the crash was underway, which is expected to include experts from the plane’s maker Boeing and U.S. aviation regulators.
