THE CENTER IS NAMED AFTER AFRO-LATINO HISTORIAN ARTURO SCHOMBURG, WHO WAS AN IMPORTANT INTELLECTUAL FIGURE IN THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE.
THE CENTENNIAL IS BEING MARKED IN AN ERA OF BACKLASH AGAINST RACE-CONSCIOUS EDUCATION AND DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVES ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
