SOUNDBITE (English) Karen Read, defendant:
Reporter: "Karen, did you think you do enough to sow doubt?"
Reporter:"Karen, how do think it went today?"
Read: "Very well. Very well. Thank you."
Reporter: "Talk about the closing. How do you feel it went? I mean, for your side?"
Read: "I don’t think mine could have gone better. That’s all I’ll say."
Reporter: "And what do you want to say? What does it feel like now that it’s in the hands of the jury for you? What does it feel like? Can you just describe what that feels like?"
Read: "I’m anxious. I’m ready, just…"
Reporter:"You said butterflies. I mean, it’s been an hour and a half, two hours. Does that tell you anything? Or how do you look at it?"
Read: "Who knows? Who knows?"
Reporter: "And the message for this jury, I mean, they’ve heard all the evidence. And you’ve heard it all. What’s your message for the jury?"
Read: "I don’t have one."
Reporter: "Nothing at all? What do you plan to do this weekend?"
Read: "I’m going to try to sleep. I don’t know if that’s possible. I’m going to try."
Reporter: "Any work that makes you feel confident that you can avoid a mistrial this time? or is that a fear?"
Read: "We’ve done everything we can. The instructions, the verdicts, you’ve seen us fighting in court."

STORYLINE:
Jurors in the second murder trial of Karen Read have begun deliberating after weeks of testimony.
The highly divisive case has hinged on the prosecution’s theory of jaded love turned deadly. That is countered by a defense claim that a cast of tight-knit Boston area law enforcement killed a fellow police officer.
Jurors began deliberating Friday and did not reach a verdict.
Read told the media when she was leaving the court in the evening that she believed her team had done everything that they can.
Jurors will be back Monday.
Read is accused of fatally striking her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, with her SUV and leaving him to die in the snow outside a house party where other local police and a federal agent were closing out a night of drinking in 2022.
