3. Wide of supporters holding banners reading (English): “United in Diversity”
4. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Dmytro Pavlov, army veteran:
"I am fighting for the human rights that other people have at a basic level. I am here to fight for my right to love the person I want, to be able to create a family with him at a legislative level. To be able to put him on the wanted list if something happens to him. So that it can be me, who would put him on the wanted list or make some important decision if he is incapacitated or in a coma. Therefore (I want) to have the opportunity for those basic rights, the basic family that all other people have. I fought for our freedom, the freedom of Ukraine at the frontline and now I want my country to take care of me as much as I took care of it."
5. Various of demonstrators carrying banners and flags
6. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Anna Sharygina, Head of KyivPride:
“We don’t notice equality and rights when we have them and when everything is fine. Now in the country there are very often emergency situations in which partners from the LGBTQ community, without marriage equality, without legal civil partnerships, cannot get to the hospital (to their partners), cannot make a crisis decision (for partner), cannot find a body (of their partner) to bury their defenders with dignity. That’s why we are here today, standing up for equality in Ukraine right now. The Verkhovna Rada continues to work and pass laws. We demand the adoption of these laws."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of LGBTQ+ Ukrainians and their supporters marched in central Kyiv Saturday to demand more rights.

Campaigners are seeking legal reforms to allow people in same-sex relationships to make medical decisions for their wounded partners, and bury victims of the Russian full scale invasion that extended across Ukraine more than three years ago.

"There are very often emergency situations in which partners from the LGBTQ community, without marriage equality, without legal civil partnerships, cannot get to the hospital, cannot make a crisis decision, cannot find a body to bury their defenders with dignity," said the Head of KyivPride, Anna Sharygina.

Veteran Dmytro Pavlov said it was important Ukraine enshrine LGBTQ+ rights in legislation.

"I fought for our freedom, the freedom of Ukraine at the frontline, and now I want my country to take care of me as much as I took care of it," he told The Associated Press.

Advocates argue an improvement in LGBTQ+ rights would create a further distinction between Ukraine and Russia, where those rights are severely restricted.

Police set up cordons in central Kyiv to keep the marchers clear of a counterdemonstration, ushering protesters into a central metro station at the end of the event.
