STORYLINE:
Relatives of victims of the 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 held a silent protest in The Hague, Netherlands on Sunday.
As in previous years, 298 chairs were laid out to represent those who were onboard the flight, with relatives placing white roses and pictures of their loved ones on the chairs.
The passengers and crew, who were killed in the downing, came from more than a dozen countries, although nearly 200 were Dutch citizens.
The event was held outside the Russian Embassy.
An international team of investigators have said it found “strong indications” that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the supply of heavy anti-aircraft weapons to Ukrainian separatists who shot down MH17 with a Russian missile.
Russia has always denied any involvement in the downing of the flight over eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014, and refused to cooperate with the investigation.
Eleven years on relatives of those killed in the downing say they are still waiting for answers about what happened to their loved ones.
"The world moves on and things happen and new wars start and everybody seems to forget about what happened to us and we still don’t have justice," said Silene Fredriksz-Hoogzand, who lost her son, Bryce.
Sander van Luik, who lost his brother, Klaas Willem, said seeing pictures of the Air India crash brought back traumatic memories, but that he hoped relatives of the victims would find out how and why their loved ones died.
