Simone Anderson turned on her dishwasher before going to bed. Later, when the smoke detectors went off, her husband, Paul, went to investigate. He discovered the dishwasher engulfed in flames and got the family out of the house. Inside Edition wondered how safe it is to leave appliances and other household gadgets unattended when they’re plugged in, Mike Uttaro, chief fire officer of New York’s Nassau County, spoke with Inside Edition.
